Abecita Pop Art & Photography is not like other art museums

The works hanging here were never originally intended to adorn the walls of a museum. Instead, they were hung at the home of Bengt and Berit Swegmark in their Borås residence. One day, the collection became larger than their home could handle. Then Abecita Pop Art & Photography was born, which today consists of three floors with a total of 2400m². The museum's collection - the only one of its kind in Europe - consists of graphic art and photography from Europe and the USA, as well as award-winning Nordic textile art.

With around 500 works, it is unique in Europe and is represented by some 30 artists from 1961 onwards. It takes as its starting point the breakthrough of pop art in the 1960s, with outstanding works from each decade up to the present day. Openings are given for each new exhibition period and in between there are also events such as lecture evenings with current photographers, fashion shows, yoga days. The museum also has a café and museum shop.
